06.03.2019

The Russian President has signed off amendments to a federal law on “Basic Health Protection for Russian Federation Citizens” which will regulate the provision of palliative medical care. The legislation has been published on the Government’s official legal information website.

The law covers the use of anaesthesia and other types of medication including narcotics and psychotrophics. It also ensures that “medical products designed to maintain the function of human body organs and systems are provided for use in the home”.

Earlier, the founder of the hospice charity Faith, Nyuta Federmesser, stated that people had to distinguish between propaganda and actual information related to anti-drug legislation and stressed the need to develop regional programmes which help governors create a unique palliative care system that takes account of local specifics.
