Nicola Ramsden has celebrated her election as BEARR’s new Chairman with a sponsored event in aid of BEARR!
She ran the Oxford Half-Marathon on 7 October to raise funds for BEARR’s new website. She said “We already have lots of good information on our current website but we want to add more, and make it easier for people to find. Like most of BEARR’s work, preparation for a new website has been done by volunteers. We want our new website to be as professional and powerful as possible, and even BEARR, with its impressively low overheads, has to pay for some services. That’s why, a few years after I endured a sprint triathlon to raise funds for BEARR’s small grants scheme, I am putting on my running shoes again. Many people can walk faster than I can run, but I hope that my recent high-altitude training in the French Alps might give me a small advantage around the flatlands of Oxford. If you’d like to help BEARR by sponsoring me, you can do so through my fundraising page at
And she did it! This is what she said about it: “Thanks to many generous donations the total raised is now £2,840 before Gift Aid. Further donations have been promised, including a ‘bonus’ from a well-wisher for running faster than my training time, so we are certain to exceed £3,000 – half the expected website cost, and more than three times my original target.”
Here is a photo of her in the start pen (yes, she was faster than the chicken!)
