The summer theatre camp is traditionally held in the Seagull residential school on Lake Rubsky situated in the Teykovsky district of Ivanovskaya oblast, where it runs an annual rehabilitation programme for people with mental illnesses, as well as offering internships to NGO professionals from different regions across Russia.

Applications to take part in next year’s internship can be made by e-mail to: studio2kroog@gmail.com. The camp is being run by the integrated theatre-studio “Krug II” which is part of the regional section of the Equal Opportunities (Moscow) organisation.

The theatre has been running this summer theatre camp for young people with mental illnesses for more than 16 years. This year, 81 people have taken part, including four interns from Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk and Ufa, 20 parents, 41 teenagers, a young disabled person and adult, five volunteers and nine specialists. Theatre workshops and rehearsals, dancing and other artistic activities were organised at the camp.

“Having successfully developed an inclusive artistic and creative environment over many years, we are firmly convinced of its importance and necessity. Establishing inclusive centres makes positive changes to the lives, not just of our charges but to society as a whole. We are willing to share experiences, to educate, mentor and provide advice to any interested parties”, said the camp’s organisers.

“Krug II” won Russia’s National Theatre Golden Mask Prize in the Experiment category in 2014, as well as taking part in the Russian Case Golden Mask festival in 2015. Their performance of Narcissus and Christopher in 2012 came first in the Theatre Arts category as part of the International Philanthropist Prize. A joint project is currently being run by Biofiction, the Goethe Cultural Centre in Moscow, the Vsevolod Meyerhold Theatre Centre and the THIKWA Theatre (Berlin).

One of the camp’s main tasks is to create an all-inclusive society where everyone, particularly people with disabilities, is a fully-fledged member. The camp is also a school that encourages social behaviour and helps develop social skills. A lot of students come to the camp without their parents in order to become more independent.
