New database of NGO support for vulnerable families

NGO best practice in supporting families and children to be accumulated in digital database

17.11.2016

Regional authorities and socially-orientated NGOs will be able to take advantage of an electronic database.

The Foundation to Support Children in Difficult Life Situations and the independent Governance and Development Council will create a database of current NGO practices to assist families and children in difficulties, reports the Novosibirsk region Ministry for Social Development.

The database will also include information about social services provided by NGOs and non-government agencies. As part of the project a specialist resource centre will be developed to support NGOs working with families and children, and informational and methodological materials will be published. Representatives of the non-profit sector are invited to participate in the development of the database.

Previously as part of the Community forum for active citizens’ final meeting of the year, experts from the non-profit sector and representatives of the authorities exchanged views on the development of infrastructure for socially-orientated NGOs. In particular, the discussion turned to the development of resource centres designed to help NGOs to enter the social services market. Training materials on the formation and support of these centres was distributed regionally.

In November 2016 the government approved a list of services which can be carried out by NGOs registered as providers of socially beneficial services. In addition to the list, which includes 20 points, the government also approved the criteria for assessing the quality of the services provided.
