Every year we choose a topic for our Small Grants Scheme and this year we put out a call for projects dealing with violence against women and girls, to include both prevention and responses. We received 213 applications from all 12 countries of our region – a fantastic response. The problems are almost overwhelming – they include early, interfamily and forced marriages, domestic violence, violence in prisons and mental health institutions and towards women refugees, second wives, teenage pregnancy.
We are so impressed with the creative and practical ideas we’ve received from NGOs in the region for tackling these issues. Our available funds will enable us to bring to life only a small number of the imaginative and sometimes experimental projects designed by people in the region. It pains us to have to turn down some of the brilliant ideas due to lack of resources.
We would like to ask for your help in raising an additional £1,000 towards our Small Grants Scheme this year. This amount of money can go a long way in our region and with your help we can plant a seed of social change – led by local people in our region.
We would be grateful for any amount you can give, however small – please donate HERE before 16 March.
At BEARR we believe that a community based on greater equality, with women and girls empowered and not afraid to interact, educate, and provide support will lead to a stronger, happier and more resilient society. Will you help us to get closer to our dream?
