Grants for 63 rural and small town NGOs

Perspective Foundation supports 63 NGO projects

16.08.2016

The organisation has summed up the results of the second presidential grant contest.

The Perspective Foundation, which supports civic engagement in small towns and rural areas, identified 63 projects from 39 Russian regions to receive support, reports the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation. The Volga Federal District was home to the highest number of winning projects, at almost a quarter of the total.

“The projects which received support from the Perspective Foundation in the second grant contest were often those with funding totalling 100,000-300,000 roubles, aiming to make a concrete social impact in specific small regions. This is what we are looking for – effective projects with clear and measurable results, creating new jobs in rural areas, resolving social problems for people living in remote regions”, said Perspective’s CEO Aleksandr Svinin.

The majority of the projects supported are linked to the implementation of socially significant initiatives to develop civil society institutions in small towns and rural areas (34% of projects). A further one in ten grants went to projects related to career guidance for young people in small regions.

As a result of the two contests, Perspective has supported more than 140 projects amounting to more than 245 million roubles. By the final Community forum, which takes place in Moscow on 3-4 November, Perspective intends to prepare a collection of the best projects which received presidential grants.

Four presidential grant contests will take place in 2016 after the president ordered the allocation of more than 4.5 billion roubles from the federal budget for NGOs carrying out projects which are socially significant or protect human rights and civil liberties. All grant operators are required to develop a procedure for evaluating the social impact of the projects selected to receive presidential grants. The third contest began in July.
