Lawrence Alma-Tadema by Graham Kennedy

I recently came across some amazing Bible paintings by Dutch born Victorian artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. Although Alma-Tedema is best known for recreating historical scenes from ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt, he also painted a small number of pictures depicting scenes from the Bible like the one above titled 'The Finding of Moses'. Lawrence Alma Tadema paintings Alma-Tadema is famous for his almost photographic portrayal of ancient artifacts and architecture. The accuracy and detail contained in his pictures is breathtaking! A good example is Phidias Showing the Frieze of the Parthenon to his Friends.

Lost Leonardo da Vinci painting discovered

Lost Leonardo da Vinci painting discovered

When British collector Sir Frederick Cook purchased it that year, he didn’t know it was a Leonardo. It was exhibited as a “Milanese School” painting from ca. 1500 when Sir Frederick put his collection of old masters on display in the 40s. It was attributed to Leonardo’s talented student Boltraffio when the trustees of the Cook collection put the painting up for auction at Sotheby’s London in 1958 after Sir Frederick’s death. Leonardo Da Vinci paintings It earned them 45 shiny pounds. (You know they are collectively beating themselves in the face right about now.)

Pierre-Auguste Cot Oil Paintings could be compared with that of Alfred Thompson Bricher

Pierre-Auguste Cot Oil Paintings could be compared with that of Alfred Thompson Bricher

In “Huns,” inspired by a Pierre-Auguste Cot painting of Attila in battle, the Holy Roman Empire is represented by an organ or harmonium in opposition to the orchestra. Hilt joined in, with the organ overpowering two effective grands. There was also electrical power aplenty in Baggott’s assault on “Mignon’s Song,” “The King of Thule” and two “Wanderer’s Night Songs.” The Chicago mezzo was a Valkyrie in Los Angeles Opera’s “Ring” Cycle last yr, and she belted impressively as soon as yet again in Santa Monica. Pierre-Auguste Cot paintings She meant just about every term of text to wow, but she essential pianist Armen Guzelimian, who accompanied her with design clarity and mindful expression, to remind us that, above all, Liszt Paul De Longpre Oil Paintings was a terrific composer.

Presidents Playing Poker – A Variation Of A Classic Painting

Presidents Playing Poker – A Variation Of A Classic Painting

Everyone has heard of the classic “Dogs Playing Poker” series. Not many people know that the artist of that series was a gentleman from New York named Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (1844-1934). Originally there were nine paintings in that series. Coolidge began the series way back in 1903. Cassius Marcellus Coolidge paintings They are still quite popular today.

The Talantbek thing

The Talantbek thing

For those who don’t know, I picked up a couple of works from an artist called Talantbek Chekirov. He is a superbly talented (or talantbeked) artist from Kygystan (some troubles out there at the moment so I don’t know how long we will be calling that country by that name). Anyway, Talantbek Chekirov paintings got the paintings framed and they look darn good… (I would put pics of the framed versions except the lighting was wrong)

Frederic Edwin Church paintings

Frederic Edwin Church paintings

Frederick Edwin Church was born in Hartford, Conn., into a prominent family. At an early age he decided to become an artist. He studied for a short time with Benjamin Coe, then went to Catskill, N.Y., in 1844 to study with Thomas Cole, one of the foremost painters of the Hudson River school. Frederic Edwin Church paintings Though Cole died 4 years later, Church had already formed his style in the tradition of his master. He wished to travel and he read with interest Kosmos, a book by the young German scientist Alexander von Humboldt. This description of a 4-year trip to unexplored areas of Latin America inspired Church, who went to Ecuador and Colombia in 1853 and again in 1857. On these trips Church made many beautifully executed pencil drawings, which he later worked up into paintings showing detailed tropical foliage with Mt. Cotopaxi or Mt. Chimborazo in the distance.

Theodore Chasseriau paintings

 Theodore Chasseriau paintings

Chassériau was born in Samaná, in Saint Domingue (now the Dominican Republic). His father was a French adventurer who, at the time of Théodore's birth, held an administrative position in what was then a French colony; his mother was the daughter of a Creole landowner. The family moved to Paris in 1821, Theodore Chasseriau paintings where the young Chassériau soon showed precocious drawing skill. He was accepted into the studio of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres in 1830, at the age of eleven, becoming the favorite pupil of the great classicist, who came to regard him as his truest disciple. (An account that may be apocryphal has Ingres declaring "Come, gentlemen, come see, this child will be the Napoleon of painting.")
