Svetlana Chupsheva, Director-General of the Agency of Strategic Initiatives (ASI), recently met Vladimir Putin to report on new projects for the development of activities for an active old age.

According to Chupsheva, plans are in train to create fora where older people can take advantage of essential rehabilitation programmes, spend cultural leisure time, take part in interesting social adaptation projects and receive psychological support, reports the Kremlin’s official website

“These will be completely modern facilities like children techno-parks where the kids can work together as a team. We want to do the same for the elderly where they feel they are wanted and can lead an active life, socialising with friends, colleagues and partners”, said Chupsheva.

According to Chupsheva, a pilot model of a long-term care system is a completely new approach to caring for the elderly in both in-patient and non-in-patient institutions.

“This social coalition is one of ASI’s priority areas. The development of a long-term care system and activities in old age is currently being undertaken with Sberbank, the Foreign Trade Bank and charities”, said Chupsheva.

An approach has been developed by the charity Happiness in Old Age. This is a project which will be rolled out across Russia within the next three years. It plans to involve NGO service suppliers, train and develop clear quality assurance standards for them. “The most important thing is for people to receive a high quality service. Everyone who needs such services will be able to access them in their own area”, said Chupsheva.
