Global Initiative on Psychiatry(GIP) - TbilisiTbilisi, Georgia +99532 235314 / 210006 / 210008 tbilisi@gip-global.org www.gip-global.org Global Initiative on Psychiatry (GIP) -Tbilisi, launched in 2003 and registered in 2005 as a Georgian NGO, helps government, NGOs, universities and other development institutions in the Caucasus to execute projects across the whole spectrum of mental health (MH) care and offers the following services: · Resource center providing information on the latest developments in MH · Advice on planned/ongoing activities and projects, and conducting full-scale assessment studies · Facilitation of training programs in MH · Facilitation and coordination of the establishment and functioning of local MH networks · Promoting cooperation between governmental and non-governmental actors in MH · Funding innovative small-scale initiatives in MH reform. GIP-Tbilisi aims to cover all aspects of MH: problems and illnesses, intellectual and social disabilities, etc. We place particular emphasis on fighting stigma, reintegration and social inclusion. At the grassroots we support small projects of local organizations and interest groups such as parents’ groups and users’ groups in Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. At the level of care providers, we carry out professional trainings and provide free materials (magazines, books, professional literature). . At national, macro level GIP-Tbilisi has supported legislative changes - a new law on psychiatric care was drafted and submitted to parliament. We also work with government ministries on reform of forensic psychiatry and prison MH care. |
