The Regional Charitable Medical Society "Help" (Pomoshch) was registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation by the Justice Administration, St Petersburg on 27th December 1994. It was re-registered on 5th January 1996. Certificate 334-YuR. 2. The General Assembly is the governing body of the organisation. There are only 27 members of the organisation, with specialist doctors, teachers, and a lawyer involved in the work. Activities of the Organisation - The activities of "Help" extend to all regions of St Petersburg and Leningradskii oblast. Since 1994 the organisation has been involved in giving medical and psychological aid to groups of children assigned by decree with psychoneurological and somatic diseases. - "Help" started its activities by giving practical help to adopting parents in a critical situation. They were assisted in work placement, in the selection of retraining courses, while psychotherapy was employed to relieve stress and depression and psychoeducational aid was given in the upbringing of adopted children. A total of 520 Families and 1200 children are registered with the society - Those in our care have had a medical examination. The doctors go out at any time of day or night to provide emergency aid. Some of those in our care have psychosomatic illnesses as a result of losing close relatives. On application by "Help" necessary and particularly costly examinations are carried out for those in our care free of charge in private clinics. - Those families in our care that have domestic animals can obtain the required drugs for them free of charge, and a veterinary surgeon carries out treatment and operations. - Consultations with a lawyer are conducted on the legal rights of families in need. - Festive occasions are provided for children (New Year parties, birthdays) - for many of them the first in their life - with handing out of presents. - "Help" has helped to create clubs in which the children take part in choirs and singing and games. A school of fine arts, "Musical", was organised for orphaned children and children from families in need, in which they were under the supervision of a psychologist and directed by professional artists. Good results were recorded, but it collapsed through lack of funding. - "Help" took on a priest who administered baptism for those who wanted to be baptised. Eleven conscripts were baptised before the second war in Chechnya and all 11 returned home safe and sound. - The action "People, stop the war in Chechnya" was carried out, where the children brought in and piled up toy weapons. An appeal was written to people throughout the world and to the people of Chechnya for peace and good will. An exhibition entitled "No to war" was set up together with an art school. - Volunteers from "Help" go out with presents and hot food to the places on the street where children congregate. Medical checkups are carried out with the necessary treatment in order to detect diseases. Talks are arranged about the prevention of venereal diseases and HIV infections and booklets are distributed containing the address of "Help", where the children can receive a consultation on psychotherapy and psychology, first aid, dressings, and disinfectants. The aim of this operation is to assign children to children's homes, health camps and medical centres. With the assistance of "Help" 194 of these children obtained free treatment in 2004-2005, including 32 who had normally costly consultation with specialists. - In 2005 the charitable holidays Mother's Day and International Child Protection Day were observed. - During its period of operation "Help" has arranged several charitable programmes, such as "Thin Reed" (aid to weak children), "Street Children" (social and medical assistance to street children), "Peace on Him Who Enters" (psychotherapy for children after physical and sexual abuse), "Mothers' Centre" (for women who have lost their only bread-winner sons during local wars). - During the 12 years of its existence the organisation has extended a helping hand to more than 38 thousand children, their guardians and parents. - In 2004-2005 prophylactic medical checkups were carried out on the orders of Admiralteiskii, Vasil'evskii, Kirovskii, Tsentral'nyi and Krasnogvardeiskii districts. Prophylactic medical examinations were conducted for 1832 children in 2004 and 1674 children in 2005. Since 01.06.2005 a TV programme called "Meeting Each Other" has been broadcast on the "STO" channel in St Petersburg, with the aim of finding potential parents in Russia for orphaned children. The members of "Help" perform all their work on a voluntary basis. The organisation has experience of operating with grants. A festival called "Meeting the Stars" will take place on 26-28th October 2006 for orphaned children, children with limited hearing abilities and children from families in need. Each child will receive a present. In addition to presents, the winners in different categories will receive orders for further development of their abilities. |
