NABAT, AlmatyAlmaty, Kazakhstan +7 (3272) 583 587 ara_kz@yahoo.com www.nabat.freenet.kz Mission: Joining efforts of different organizations, projects and programs for developing and implementing comprehensive solution for problems met by children leaving orphanages or specialized institutions. Objectives - to develop, implement and manage a comprehensive and self-sustaining program for the professional education and integration of orphaned children, particularly the disabled, into society following their graduation from specialized state institutions. NGO NABAT runs its activity in conjunction with international and local organizations, aspires to the use of international best practice and provides opportunities for the children to become valuable members of society. Main Areas of activity Children leaving orphanages, especially those with disabilities. They are less educated and are often become criminals, homeless or unemployed. At the age of sixteenth, they are put out in the street with no life skills, a poor level of education and limited chance of finding work. Many of them get involved in crime and prostitution to earn a living, use alcohol and drugs. One in five is homeless; one in five commits a crime and one in ten commits suicide. These children will most likely become the poorest part of the society with very little chance of improving their life. The idea has been to suggest a complex solution to the problem described above by developing a pilot Centre in Almaty for children from orphanages, especially for those with disabilities, that will provide not only world-level quality vocational training in working and services specialities, but also rehabilitation arrangements, aimed at remedying the deficiencies in their general education, upbringing and behaviour in collaboration with local and international institutions and businesses. The children will be taught languages and computer skills, enjoy cultural events, learn behaviour rules. The main goal of the Centre and its mission is to develop valuable members of society with opportunities for being employed by prestige companies and businesses, and also for continuing their education in local and overseas universities through training and studying. The Centre will have its own placement services for graduates with a database of potential employees, education and internship opportunities. In future the Centre will become an incubator for good practice in approaching a problem that can be replicated in other cities and for other groups of disadvantage people. Alreday a pilot project supported by several international programs and local businesses, and also by the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan and the Academy of Education, has been implemented in vocational training school #8. The results of the project was - 3 teachers from the school trained as trainers by experts from Finland, the best vocational training centre in Europe selected by TACIS (Technical Assistance to CIS countries program supported by the EU). Children graduated from the vocational training program in carpentry and parquet laying, got practical knowledge in parquet laying and now have jobs in one of the best parquet laying service company in Kazakhstan. Also car repairing and maintaining centre has been developed at The Youth House and 3 children got jobs there. It is planned to develop the same kind of business training at vocational school #8 and also further develop carpentry training programs. No |
