U.S. Embassy Small Grants Program (Russia)U.S. Embassy in Russia, Moscow + 7 495 728 53 65 MoscowDC@mail.ru http://moscow.usembassy.gov/democracy.html The Small Grants Program provides relatively small amounts of money to Russian-registered non-governmental non-commercial organizations to help develop grassroots democracy and civil society. The Public Affairs Section administers the program with grant decisions made by the Expert Commission, which is chaired by the Ambassador or his representative and includes members from most U.S. government agencies at the Embassy. Activities to be funded The Small Grants Program supports democracy-building initiatives that promote civil society in Russia, including human rights and civic education, open access to information and development of independent media, transparency in government and prevention of corruption, women's empowerment and women's rights, public awareness, advocacy, and development of volunteerism in alleviating a wide range of urgent concerns, such as trafficking in human beings, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, integration of the disabled in community life, etc. Dates to apply There is no final deadline for submitting requests. Applications may be submitted anytime during the entire calendar year. Who can apply Applications must come from registered Russian non-governmental and non-commercial organizations with a bank account in rubles in a Russian bank. American and third-country organizations and individuals are not eligible. Projects can only be submitted by organizations and not by individuals. Government agencies, businesses and commercial institutions are not eligible. There are no geographic priorities or limitations on applicants, except a requirement that the project be implemented in the Russian Federation. How to apply Projects must use the official application form available from Public Affairs. To request an application, send an e-mail to MoscowDC@mail.ru or call (495) 728-5365, or download the application materials from the links below: Proposals should be submitted in English, if possible, and delivered by e-mail MoscowDC@mail.ru. Russian versions will also be accepted. If e-mail delivery is not possible, applications can be delivered by regular mail at 121099 Moscow, Bolshoy Devyatinskiy Pereulok 8, Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy or faxed to 495-728-5262 (Attn: Small Grants Program). Attached documents can be sent by fax or regular mail. Application processing After a proposal has been received, the Commission will review it at one of its meetings. If there are questions, applicants will be contacted to provide feedback. The Commission will inform applicants of the outcome as soon as the proposal has been reviewed. Applicants are discouraged from calling the Commission about the status of their proposal. Average grant amount The maximum grant is USD 24,000. Most awards are much smaller. Last year, grants ranged from USD 3,200 to USD 23,000, with an average grant size of USD 10,000. There is no minimum grant. Organizations that have never received any grants from any source, may not apply to receive grants exceeding USD 7,000. |
