Chatham House and the EBRD are delighted to invite you to a panel discussion examining the political and economic implications of the recent Ukrainian presidential elections.

With negotiations over a new government in the Rada continuing, the contours of Viktor Yanukovych’s presidency are only beginning to appear. Yanukovych has promised there will be both a ‘sharp turnaround’ in relations with Russia, and that European integration will remain a priority. What will this mean in practice, and how will the new President approach the critical issue of energy negotiations with the Kremlin? Beyond geopolitical concerns, the President’s most pressing challenges are on the domestic front, where he must tackle a devastating economic crisis, manage relations with parliament, and restart negotiations to unfreeze the IMF economic bailout. This  discussion will consider the main challenges facing the Yanukovych presidency, and likely scenarios for Ukraine’s domestic development and foreign policy.

This event will take place at the EBRD, One Exchange Square, EC2A 2JN.
