ASSOCIATION OF PARENTS WITH MENTALLY DISABLED CHILDREN
"HOPE AND HEALTH"

The Association of parents with adult children with mental diseases «Hope and Health» is an NGO(nongovernmental organisation) that exists from October 14, 2001 and was created by the initiative of parents, who have children with mental diseases. Association is registered by the Ministry of Justice on November 01, 2001 by number 1997 (appendix 1).

In the republic of Moldova exists the problem of adult (after 16 years old) people with mental diseases, that could not find the place in the society. They are the people, who ended the specific schools and specific institutes, and are out of life, they could not find the work - and as a result they are left on the street. They are used by others, especially by the criminals.

Our Association is the first in the republic open organization, that deals with the adaptation o such people in the society. We are the next goal: the teach the people with mental diseases, to give them the profession and the give them the place of work. Taking into the account the number of such people (it is more that 15000 in Kishinev), the problem is complex.

The Association's promary activity is providing free social services to the people with mental diseases, that consist the poorest group of the society.

The major tasks of the Association "Hope and Health":

- to work out the necessary skills of self-service in day-to-day life;

- to teach the people with mental diseases the professional skills in accordance to their development and possibilities;

- to help the parents care about the children.

For the realization ot these goals and tasks by the Association "Hope and Health" has been created the rehabilitation center with the support of ACASA Association and Dutch international organization «JANIVO». After the creation, the activity of the centre is being supported by the "Individuell Manniskohjalp" international organization.

The rehabilitation center is working for people that have these illnesses: mental diseases, epilepsy. schizophrenia, etc., who has the 1-2 group. The mental diseases are such illness that are related to the illness with great degree of hard social adaptation in the society by the condition of their right training.

At the rehabilitation center adult people with mental diseases:

- are being taught to work with wood, paper, material, natural materials;

- are being taught to make some home work (cleaning, washing dishes, etc.);

- are being taught by school sciences (grammar, mathematics, geography, etc);

- are visiting the museums, exhibitions, historical places;

- are developing the artistic skills.

The Association activity is honored by the state. The Parliament commission by the Ministry of Justice recognized the activity as being the socially useful, that is stated by the certificate, from July 22, 2003 number 350 (appendix 2).
