Nordis rehabilitation and integrated education school for deaf children

NORDIS» is non-state education institution. It was founded in 1993 by a group of deaf children parents, members of NORDIS Association

NORDIS school is an alternative way in upbringing and education of deaf children. It is called «Equal possibilities for non-hearing children».

It means:

family-centrated pre-school upbringing and education programme for children withloss of hearihg.

It gives an opportunity to live in a family and further to study equally with hearing pupils in ordinary schools and higher educational instituns.

primary school with small classes (10 - 12 pupils) in which deaf and -hearing children are tought among healthy.

School programme consists of general education subjects, extended course of English language,art and creative work, choreography and plastic movements, school orchestra. The school is equipped with a personal computer class. It had been possible owind to the grant of the Open Society Institute.

There exist long-ternu rehabilitation programms too. NORDIS school cooperates with 116 families from 78 cities of Russia and UIS.

Our deaf «students» aged 2-7 live in Murmansk and Krasnojarsk,Bratsk and Brest.

Twise a year these families come to Nizhny Novgorod to NORDIS school for 1-2 weeks course of speech facilities and hearing development.

Parents study upbringing and education methods on their own children example. Step by step, all together - teachers and parents - we over come the barriers of deafness.
