Raising the living standards of the poor and vulnerable groups in Armenia: World-Bank Project Report 2008October 11, 2008 Introduction The Status of Projects in Execution (SOPE) Report for FY08 provides information on all International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and International Development Association (IDA) projects that were active as of June 30, 2008. Issued as an internal communication to the Board of Executive Directors, since 2002 the SOPE Report has been available to the public in accordance with the revised disclosure policy. The report is intended to bridge the gap in information available to the public between the Project Appraisal Document or Programme Document, disclosed after the Bank approves a project, and the Implementation Completion Report, disclosed after the project closes. Progress toward achieving development objective: Since December 2006, the project has moved forward at an accelerating pace providing social protection to the poorest and most vulnerable communities throughout Armenia. The project expanded its local-community training programme covering community council members, school board members, and members of the MP Project Implementing Agencies to all regions of Armenia. This training programme has already benefited an impressive 9,000 community members from 8 regions. The workshop on financial management, budgeting, accounting, and asset management is scheduled for November 2008. In 2008, the project also plans to support the Ministry of Territorial Administration in developing a national strategy on local government capacity building, which will benefit all current and prospective local- governance projects in Armenia.
