BEARR LecturesFor some years The BEARR Trust has organised an annual fund-raising lecture, sometimes accompanied by a book launch. Annual Lecture 2008: "Culture and Society in Post-Communist Russia"23 Oct 2008 - 6:30pm 23 Oct 2008 - 8:30pm Etc/GMT
Dr Genieva is Director-General of the Russian State Library for Foreign Literature and a major player on the Russian socio-cultural scene. She was appointed to her current position following the collapse of the Soviet Union after a distinguished career as a literature specialist at the Library. She has, for example, written extensively on writers such as Thackeray, Dickens and Waugh. Her appointment as Director-General of the Library catapulted her to the heart of Russian cultural life, and she has remained an important and outspoken figure over the subsequent years. Annual Lecture 2007: "Russia: towards a new isolationism?"19 Sep 2007 - 6:00pm 19 Sep 2007 - 8:30pm Etc/GMT The lecture was held at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on 19 September 2007. Dr Pravda is one of the UK's pre-eminent experts on Russian foreign policy in the period after the Cold War, and a lively speaker. He is currently a Fellow of St Antony's College, Oxford, and previously worked at Chatham House, at universities in the UK and USA, and as adviser to the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee. Annual Lecture 2006: Foundlings in Russia26 Jun 2006 - 6:00pm 26 Jun 2006 - 8:00pm Etc/GMT The lecture was held on Monday 26 June 2006 at the Foundling Museum in London. The event marked the launch of the paperback of Kate Adie’s book “Nobody’s Child”, which looks at the plight of abandoned children around the world. Kate Adie takes a particular interest in this subject as she was herself adopted at birth. The author kindly signed copies of her book after the lecture. Annual Lecture 2003: Can Russia Survive as a Nation-State?6 Nov 2003 - 6:00pm 6 Nov 2003 - 8:00pm Etc/GMT Given by Professor Geoffrey Hosking on 6 November 2002, and kindly hosted by the European Bank for Recontruction and Development.
