Through Playing to Living a Healthy Life22-29th April 2009 The World Bank team in Ukraine organized the “Quest Game for Huge Happiness in Living a Healthy Life” to attract the attention of young people to the consequences of unhealthy lifestyles, and inspire them to live a healthy life. The scenario was based on the recent findings published in the study “An Avoidable Tragedy: Combating Ukraine’s Health Crisis – Lessons from Europe.” The most compelling facts from the study were summarized in a route map “Being European Means Being Young and Healthy,” which offered a guide to the tasks and riddles. The tasks included impromptu public performances about the benefits of a healthy life and the destructive results of bad habits. Over 1022 young Ukrainians in 13 cities across Ukraine took part in the Quest, with the highest interest shown in Vinnitsa (Central Ukraine). The organizers believe that the Quest reached around 7,000 people including the participants, volunteers and organizers from the youth NGOs, local and Kyiv journalists. The participants handed out the brochure and other healthy lifestyle related informational materials. The games were also broadcast to the general public though the media. Some teams were motivated by charity. For example, Stanislav Syagaylo, Quest participant from Dnipropetrovsk, promised to donate their prize to the tuberculosis hospital. The average age of the participants was 16 – 26, with the youngest participant aged 4; and the oldest, over 40. |
