Armenia’s Health Care Renovated11th June 2009 The Health System Modernization Project sponsored by the World Bank is transforming healthcare in Armenia. 117 clinics have been restored across the country. For example, a fully-equipped new clinic located in a reconstructed building provides health services to over 4,300 people in Aragats, in the Armavir region of Armenia. The clinic has separate rooms for doctors and nurses, consultations, examinations, and reception. As part of the Project, over 1,800 physicians and over 800 nurses took courses in Family Medicine at the State Medical University, National Institute of Health, and Basic Medical College. The departments have lately been renovated, furnished, and equipped with computers, medical equipment, skills-enhancing labs, and other training resources. The Health System Modernization Project also covers hospital reconstruction in Yerevan. For instance, most of the hospital departments at St. Mary’s Medical Centre, which provides services both for adults and for children, have been completely renovated and equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
