On 31 May, the Foundation’s Coordinating Committee provided a summary of the results of the first Presidential Grants competition of the year. Among the winners were 1,551 NGOs. The successful applicants will receive grants totalling nearly 3.15 billion roubles.

9,175 project applications from 85 Russian regions were submitted to the competition, including from 1,355 regional NGOs and a further 126 Moscow-based organisations, with projects to be implemented on a national or inter-regional scale. Seventy Moscow organisations will receive grants for carrying out projects that mainly have a Moscow region focus.

“In my view, the most important thing is to develop a competition system that increases the number of winning entries from sparsely populated areas in the furthest parts of the Russian Federation. The percentage is increasing having reached 87% for the first time. The number of successful projects from small towns and villages has gone up 2.5 times”, said Sergey Kiriyenko, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of Russia.

Among the winners were 492 NGOs who were unsuccessful in last year’s competitions.
